M'sian Riders Josiah, Azizulhasni To Know Who Will Get Olympic Ticket On April 16

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian keirin riders Josiah Ng and Azizulhasni Awang will know on April 16 who among them will get to compete at the London Olympics. Malaysian National Cycling Federation deputy president Datuk Naim Mohamad said the decision would be announced on April 16 after the duo had competed in the World Track Cycling Championships in Melbourne from April 8-4. "As each country can only send one rider (men's category) to the Olympics, the two have do their utmost to get selected," he told told reporters here Wednesday. Earlier, he had witnessed the presentation of a scholarship by the Sime Darby Foundation to national woman rider Fatehah Mustapa at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara here. The scholarship worth RM400,000 will enable the cycling star to continue her studies up to the first degree level in Marketing Business on a part-time basis at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. The duration of study is six years. The scholarship was presented by Sime Darby Foundation trustee, Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin. Also present were Fatehah's parents, Mustapa Kassim and Esah Isa. Fatehah, 23, said she was very happy to receive the scholarship and pledged to balance her studies and cycling in order to achieve excellence in both. She will also be representing Malaysia in the women's keirin event at the London Olympics. National chief coach for cycling John Beasley said he expected her to do well in London as her performance was getting better and better. Fatehah created local history when she became the first Malaysian woman to win the gold medal in the elite category at the 32nd Asian Cycling Championship (ACC) held at the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome here, in Malaysia recently. -- BERNAMA
