M'sia To Host Asean Information Ministers Conference

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host the 11th Conference of the Asean Ministers Responsible for Information (Amri) from next Tuesday until March 1. The conference with the theme "Media: Forging Close Ties, Connecting Cultures Towards One Asean Community" will be officiated by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin at The Royale Chulan Hotel on March 1. Malaysian Information Communications and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the conference comprised four meetings at the levels of senior officers responsible for Asean information (Somri) and Asean ministers responsible for information (Amri). He said Malaysia would delve on the growth of social media at the biennial conference. "The conference will open a new chapter on humanitarian issue due the impact of social media so that Asean will preserve its harmony in dealing with social media growth," he told reporters here Wednesday. He said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was scheduled to attend the Asean Musical Extravaganza featuring songs and dances from Asean countries in conjunction with Amri at Istana Budaya on March 1. -- BERNAMA
