Founder Of One Of Malaysia's Leading Conglomerates Retires

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Corporation Bhd (B-Corp) announced on Thursday that its founder and controlling shareholder, Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, has decided to retire from an active corporate role in B-Corp, the flagship of the Berjaya Group of Companies. Consequently, Tan has also relinqusihed his position as Chairman of B-Corp after having earlier handed over the reins of Chief Executive Officer to his eldest son, Robin Tan Yeong Ching, in January last year. "In the interim and with immediate effect, Robin will concurrently hold the position of Chairman and CEO of B-Corp while the Board identifies and selects a suitable candidate to fill the Chairman's post," the company said in a statement. Meanwhile, Tan who turned 60 on Thursday, said he would remain the controlling shareholder of the company and committed to the group, both financially and otherwise. "Although I am no Chairman or a board member, I will nevertheless be available to the management of the group for consultation and advice whenever needed," he said. Founded Berjaya Group in 1984, Tan has established the company into one of the leading conglomerates in the country with businesses in hospitality, property, gaming and lottery, food and beverages etc employing over 16,000 workers. -- BERNAMA
