UAE, Pakistan sign agreement on mutual transfer of convicts

Abu Dhabi, Feb 28, 2012 (WAM) - The UAE and Pakistan signed here yesterday key humanitarian and social agreement on transfer of sentenced persons to different jail terms in both countries.
H. H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior signed the agreement, while Pakistani Interior Minister Rahman Malek, signed on behalf of his country.
The agreement will allow the convicts in both countries, whose jail terms exceed six months, to serve the remainder of their sentences in their respective home countries.
Sheikh Saif said the deal comes in line with the directives by the higher leadership to ease burden on societal categories, especially the inmates of the Correctional and Penal Institutions.
For his part, the Pakistani Interior minister lauded the efforts of two governments to achieve the international criminal justice and fight all forms of crime, stressing keenness of both sides to enforce the law and observe human rights and international conventions in this respect. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
