Quake Shakes Northern Sumatera

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- A weak earthquake, of 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, shook northern Sumatera in Indonesia at 2.55 pm Monday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported. It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 47km northwest of Hamparan Perak in Indonesia and 202km southwest of Kampar, Perak, in Malaysia. It also said that tremors could have been felt in Perlis, Penang, Kedah and Perak (northern states of Malaysia) as well as in Selangor (west coast of Peninsular Malaysia). -- BERNAMA
