UAE President orders sending rescue team to Afghanistan
Abu Dhabi, Oct 8, 2008 (WAM) - President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued instructions on dispatching a rescue team, including 56 first-aid men and experts, to Afghanistan to assist in rescue operations in the wake of earthquake, which hit Afghanistan Sunday.
The well-equipped team is headed by Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, head of the technical rescue and quick intervention section. The team left for Kabul with highly trained police sniffer dogs to help trace survivors of the calamity.
Al Nuaimi said the "participation of the UAE team in the rescue operations is in line with the instructions of the UAE President to assert the role of the UAE in crisis management cases, and highlight the role of the UAE Red Crescent Authority".
He added that as per directives of UAE Interior Minister HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, preparedness of the UAE rescue team has been upgraded to respond immediately for emergencies.
