Sheikh Saif stresses use of modern technology for ensuring societal security

Abu Dhabi, March 19,2 012 (WAM) - H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority has affirmed UAE leadership's keenness to develop state's integrated technological system through establishing safe, secure and developed infrastructure for ensuring societal security. He said this in his speech read on his behalf by Dr. Engineer Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Director General of Emirates ID, on the occasion of "ID World Abu Dhabi 2012" Summit which opened on Sunday at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR). Sheikh Saif said, " IDs have attained a very significant position in this changing world and latest modern technology would ensure their security as well as setting up knowledgeable, scientific and economic establishments to reach a mature stage that goes side by side with the UAE's concepts." The two-day conference is hosted by ECSSR under the patronage of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Identity Authority. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan in his message further stated: "The summit is being held in an era when the world countries are facing new challenges and one of these challenges is the importance of ensuring an integrated matrix of security for our societies and citizens besides tackling them.'' Lt. General Sheikh Saif added that this summit is an ideal platform to exchange ideas and showcase advanced practices in the field of electronic ID Systems. He also hoped that the working papers presented in the summit would be able to spread the applicable awareness of advanced ID systems an addition to empowering government and private sectors officials to develop effective strategy to implement initiatives and develop projects by adapting best technological means and modern systems. He commended ECSSR for hosting the summit as well as appreciating the role it plays in cementing the cultural, scientific, research, intellectual status which qualifies it to be one of the most prestigious centres for researches regionally and internationally. The two-day summit is organized by Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) and is supported by European commission. Some 400 luminaries and public figures will host three main forums: The Citizen ID Forum, the Transportation Security Forum and the Asset Tracking Forum. The summit will also address several topics with regard to the future of digital ID, wireless technology, healthcare technologies as well as PC and smart mobile applications. The fifth annual EMEA summit will include working papers of over 60 local and international entities. It brings together representatives of government bodies, experts and leaders in the industry of smart ID and digital identity systems. In addition, around 20 international prominent companies will attend the exhibition to be held on the sidelines of the event. Secretary General of International Criminal Police Organization, (Interpol) Ronald Noble during the opening session hailed the efforts of UAE in supporting international cooperation with the organization and the members countries in the law enforcement at various levels that confirms its distinct position and reputation in different international and regional forums. Noble also lauded UAE role in countering the organized criminal activities specially in unveiling identity fraud as it is considered major obstacle and direct threat for security and stability globally where the world witnesses escalating rise in these crimes. He stressed the importance of international cooperation among all members of the communities to help Interpol meeting its goals. According to him world faces several threats and security agencies all over the world are spending millions of dollars to achieve security and facilitate mechanisms of exchanging information among the members countries. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
