Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan Tripartite Summit Starts

Dushanbe, March 26, IRNA - - Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan tripartite summit kicked off in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, Sunday afternoon. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Afghan President Hamed Karzai and Tajik President Imomali Rahmon attended the event after participating in the Third International Nowruz Celebrations and the Fifth Afghan Economic Conference in Dushanbe on Saturday. The summit which is taking place at Saman Palace in Dushanbe lasts for one and half an hours. President Ahmadinejad, accompanied by Foreign Minster Ali Akbar Salehi, arrived in Dushanbe on Saturday to attend the events. He held talks with his Persian-speaking counterparts there. The tripartite meeting seeks to expand and strengthen economic relations among the three Persian-speaking countries. A quadrilateral summit of Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan is to be held at the same palace after the tripartite meeting./end
