Pink Caravan's riders arrive in Dubai

Dubai, April 12, 2012 (WAM) - The Pink Caravan arrived in Dubai yesterday, Wednesday, and was received by great public gatherings and welcome ceremonies at many stops. The first stop for the Pink Caravan's riders was at Al Mamzar Park to Dubai Hospital, where the hospital's management and medical personnel organized a lavish ceremony for the Pink Caravan's riders and medical teams. A number of the Caravan's riders went to Barclays Bank, where Sultan Abu Sultan, Chairman of Barclays Bank UAE, placed his fingerprints on the Pink Caravan ambassador program. Abdullah Al Sheikh and Dialla Ali joined the Pink Caravan and together went to Zayed University in Dubai Academic City, where the university's management and educational teams and students organised a special reception for the riders. Present at the reception were Noora bin Dhaher, Alumni Outreach officer, Dr. Kenneth Wilson, Associate Provost Campus Director and Operating Officer and Ameera Bin Karam, Founding Member and President of Friends of Cancer Patients. The Pink Caravan provided free breast cancer early detection tests and awareness workshops about the importance of early detection and self examination methods. The medical clinics in Dibba Al Hisn Medical centre in Sharjah, Dubai Customs, Zayed University and the Preventive Medicine Centre in Umm Al Qaiwain have seen a remarkable turnout of women to benefit from the Pink Caravan's services". The Pink Caravan's riders will continue their tour in the emirate of Dubai today, Thursday. They are scheduled to visit Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Dubai Media City, and Mina Al Seyahi, respectively. The medical clinics will be present at the University of Sharjah, Hatta Hospital - Dubai, and Alshaimaa School in Sharjah. Pink Caravan's campaign will run annually until 2014, under the patronage of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. The Pink Caravan's ride started in Sharjah on 5th of April and will culminate in Abu Dhabi on 14th of April. The Pink Caravan has over 180 riders divided into 15 - 18 riders daily, including the Pink Caravan's ambassadors. The Pink Caravan's ride aims to spread greater awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular tests, and raise funds to buy a 3D mammogram clinic, which will provide free tests for citizens and expatriates in the country. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
