UAE Foreign Ministry condemns North Korea's rocket launch
Abu Dhabi, April 16, 2012 (WAM) - The Foreign Ministry has condemned the launch of a long-range rocket by North Korea (DPRK) on Friday, saying the action violated U.N. Security Council resolutions.
The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, stressed that the failed launch attempt undermines efforts to preserve peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
"North Korea violated United Nations Security Council's Resolution 1874 (2009) which demands that North Korea abstain from conducting any further nuclear or missile tests or further launches using ballistic missile technology," it added.
The North Korean rocket carrying a satellite failed shortly after launch and broke up early last Friday and debris fell into the sea off South Korea's coast.
The Foreign Ministry's statement also urged the need to respect international resolutions and charters as well as to abstain from the policy of escalation on the Korean Peninsula. It said this provocative policy adopted by North Korea would only deepen its international isolation. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
