UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons briefed on Dubai's human rights protection efforts

Abu Dhabi, April 23, 2012 (WAM) - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, was briefed by officials of Dubai's Community Development Authority (CDA) on the strategies and plans to protect the rights of children as well as on the Authority's achievements between 2010-2012.
Ezeilo, at a meeting with the Director General of Director General of CDA Khalid Al-Kamda also viewed the body's projects to be launched later this year. Among these is a program of field surprise or scheduled visits in the emirate by inspectors to monitor any violations of human rights.
In remarks at the meeting with the UN official, Al-Kamda reiterated Dubai's interest in commitment to implementing the highest standards of human rights, respect of freedoms.
He expressed the interest of CDA in expanding cooperation and exchanging expertise with the UN and other international organisations. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
