UAE tackles international humanitarian crises, says President of IFRC

Abu Dhabi, April 25, 2012 (WAM) - President of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Tadateru Konoe stressed that UAE is a basic foundation for addressing the humanitarian challenges worldwide. Concluding his visit to the UAE, he added that the country's initiatives in the humanitarian field emphasise international solidarity on tackling the current and urgent humanitarian issues, and gather support to help the victims around the world. Konoe reiterated that the UAE is major donor to the IFRC programmes and activities dedicated to the fragile and needy categories in the disaster zones. He exchanged views during the meeting with Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouei, Board Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), on partnership and cooperation between the two sides for a better humanitarian work future. The two sides also discussed the challenges facing humanitarian work and agreed on developing joint work and adopting initiatives that could strengthen the humanitarian solidarity. For his part, Al Mazrouei affirmed keenness of the RCA on boosting its partnership with the IFRC and other national societies to enhance the international humanitarian efforts and ease suffering. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
