Preparation For "Wesak Day" Celebration

GEORGETOWN (Penang, Malaysia), May 4 (Bernama) -- Two workers cleaning a Buddhist statue at the Mahindram Buddhist Temple at Kampar Road here Wednesday prior to the Wesak Day celebration on Saturday. Wesak is celebrated by Buddhists in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Southeast Asian countries of Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia. It is the most important event for the Buddhists as the day signifies the birth, enlightment and passing away of Gautama Buddha, a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded.
