Search And Rescue Team Looking For Black Box

Bogor, West Java, May 14 (ANTARA) - The joint search and rescue team is digging at the crash site to find the black box of the Russian Sukhoi aircraft that crashed in Bogor, West Java province. "The team says that the black box is buried under plane debris and landslide," the Chief Operation of National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Brigadier General Indonesian Military Sumartono, told reporters on Monday. He said the team must continue digging because, according to information from National Committee of Transportation Safety (KNKT), the black box was at the tail end of the plane. "The work surely would be very difficult due to the conditions at the site and because some plane debris is stuck on the trees," he added. According to Sumartono, efforts to evacuate the bodies of the crash victims were still ongoing and remained a priority. The chief of KNKT, Tatang Kurniadi, said the area in which the black box of the Russian Sukhoi aircraft was buried had been recently located. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 was carrying 45 passengers, including 34 Indonesians, eight Russians, two Italians, and one Frenchman. The plane crashed last Wednesday (May 9) during a demonstration flight for potential Indonesian buyers.
