(ATTN: UPDATES with match details; TRIMS; CORRECTS venue)
SEOUL, Oct. 11 (Yonhap) -- Substitute Lee Keun-ho scored two goals Saturday to
help South Korea defeat Uzbekistan 3-0 in a friendly ahead of a regional World
Cup qualifier next week.
The match at Suwon World Cup Stadium came four days before South Korea face the
United Arab Emirates in Seoul in an Asian qualifier for the 2010 World Cup in
South Africa.
Striker Lee scored in the 72th and 85th minutes, while midfielder Ki Sung-yueng
gave South Korea an early lead by netting a mid-range volley shot in the 3rd
minute.
Lee, who came in at the second half, curled the ball into the net for his first
goal at mid-range, and then rifled the ball from the left side of the area to
notch his second.
Ki, who helped South Korea salvage a draw against North Korea last month,
received a cross from the right side and blasted a volley shot from outside the
area to open the scoreboard.
The Premier League's Park Ji-sung did not earn a point in the match attended by
some 21,000 fans.
South Korea played a one-all draw with North Korea last month in their opener of
the final World Cup qualifying round. South Korea are grouped with the UAE, Saudi
Arabia, North Korea and Iran in Asian Group B.
Ten Asian teams are competing in the final qualifying series, with two top teams
from each group of five allowed to advance to the World Cup finals.
The third-placed teams from each group will play against each other, with the
winner later facing off against the top squad from Oceania.
