SAR Team Finds Sukhoi's Parachute At Crash Site
Bogor, W Java, May 21 (ANTARA) - The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team of Indonesia and Russia found a parachute and a number of identity cards of the ill-fated Sukhoi plane`s victims at the crash site on Monday morning.
The SAR team arrived at the Cijeruk command post, Bogor District, West Java Province, at about 7 a.m. local time.
Commander of the Korem 061/Suryakancana Military Resort Command Colonel AM Putranto confirmed the news about the parachute.
"I am a parachutist, so I can confirm that the newly found parachute is still locked and was never used," Putranto said.
The SAR team retrieved several documents and ID cards, such as an ID card that belonged to Darwin of Angkasapura. They also found two Sky Aviation books, one of which belonged to Aditya.
These names were among the list of passengers aboard the Sukhoi Superjet 100, which crashed into Mount Salak, Bogor District, during a demonstration flight on May 9, 2012. All 45 people on board the Russian-made plane were killed in the accident. There were 35 Indonesians, eight Russians, one American, and one Frenchman.
The team also discovered two wallets belonging to the Russian victims.
"In the wallets, there is Russian money," Putranto said.
The SAR team, comprising personnel from the National SAR agency (Basarnas) and the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT), conducted the evacuation process.
