LG Chem's Q3 profit climbs 43 pct on weaker won
SEOUL, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's largest chemical company, LG Chem Ltd., said Thursday its third-quarter net profit rose 42.9 percent from a year ago due to the won's fall versus the U.S. dollar and robust sales.
LG Chem's net profit gained to 301 billion won (US$225 million) in the three
months ended Sept. 30 from 210.7 billion won for the same period a year earlier,
the company said in a regulatory filing.
Third-quarter operating profit surged 75.4 percent to 442.9 billion won. Sales
rose 46.9 percent to 4.06 trillion won.
A weaker won makes LG Chem's products cheaper overseas, helping them sell more
competitively than those of foreign rivals.
Looking forward, however, the company said its fourth quarter outlook is not
favorable.
"In the face of the global economic recession, business conditions are likely to
deteriorate," LG Chem said in a statement.
