Head of Lee supporters' group arrested on suspicion of taking bribes

BUCHEON, South Korea, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- Prosecutors said Thursday they have arrested the head of a local group supporting President Lee Myung-bak on charges of influence peddling.

The chief of the group known as "Myungsarang," identified by his last name of
Chung, is suspected of having taken 441 million won (US$365,974) in bribes from a
multi-level marketing firm through his secretary on several occasions during the
January-April period. The company is being probed on charges of fraud.
Prosecutors took the 60-year-old Chung, who has been hiding since Sept. 12, into
custody in Seoul's Dobong Ward on Monday.
The secretary, who has the same family name of Chung, has also been arrested on
suspicion of receiving 2 billion won from the unidentified company by delivering
only 441 million won and pocketing the rest.
