Park Tae-hwan extends swimming feat at national competition
YEOSU, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- Beijing gold-winning swimmer Park Tae-hwan grabbed his fifth title at South Korea's largest athletic event on Thursday, repeating the feat for the third straight year.
The 19-year-old, who won the 400-meter freestyle at the Beijing Olympics, joined
his three teammates to win the 400m medley relay at the National Sports Festival,
posting a team time of 3:45.40.
The race came a day after Park broke his own South Korean record to claim the
100m freestyle title and was declared the most valuable player at the event,
which kicked off last month across the country's southwestern region.
Park has now won two freestyle titles and three relay races, extending his feat
of winning five gold medals at the event for the third straight year.
Park, who is the first South Korean to have ever brought his country a gold medal
in Olympic swimming, also won the silver in the 200m freestyle at the Summer
Games in August.
