S.BAYARTSOGT BECOMES VICE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ At a plenary meeting of the parliamentary session on last Friday, Mr S.Bayartsogt was elected the Vice Speaker of the State Great Khural. A draft resolution on electing him as such took some 83 per cent votes of the MPs. During a discussion of this draft, S.Ganbaatar MP said "the Oyu tolgoi investment agreement does not meet the laws", that Mr Bayartsogt "was one of those involved in this deal", and asked him "whether it is ethical for him to take such a high position". S.Bayartsogt defended himself saying "We have performed our duties, the state has managed to make this beneficial contract to earn 60 per cent profits from the Oyu tolgoi deposit without giving a single togrog, and the Oyu tolgoi is the biggest fruitful contract Mongolia ever made". In addition, the State Great Khural elected R.Burmaa as head of the parliamentary Standing committee on tackling people's complaints ansd petitions. B.Khuder
