MONGOLIAN LEADER MEETS BAN KI-MOON

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during the high level meeting of Non Aligned Movement /NAM/ on August 31. The President thanked the UN Head for attending the high level meeting. The he said Mongolia with its 17 per cent economic growth of the last year and richest harvest of the last two years wants to take part in the UN food aid programme. It is possible to help Democratic People's Republic of Korea, who is suffering from flood, in field of the bilateral ties and within the UN programme, he suggested. Then the leader of Mongolia invited Mr Ban Ki-moon to the Ministrial conference on Community of Democracies which is scheduled in Ulaanbaatar on April 29 of 2013, and expressed a willingness to strengthen the cooperation. Mr Ban Ki-moon said he is glad that Mongolia's economy is improving. He also appreciated that Mongolia has become a model for the whole world in terms of forming the democracy, has successfully been heading the Community for Democracies, has been providing the democracy education, has been prioritizing the justice, is adhering to the law, is increasing the NGOs' participation, and has rise a quota of women in parliament. All this is an indicator of the democracy, he added. Mongolia will continue actively participating in the UN peacekeeping operations, he said and informed that is ready to attend high level meeting on the democratic education. Mr Elbegdorj said Mongolia wants to initiate and implement a base Convention on control over alcoholic drinks, and asked the Secretary-General to take it into consideration. B.Oyundelger
