Gitex opens its doors today

Dubai, Oct 19, 2008 (WAM) - Gitex, the Middle East's largest technology show organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre, opens today at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre according to “Gulf News”.

The 28th edition of the show is set to receive more than 130,000 visitors and host 3,300 companies from 83 countries over the next five days.

Major international companies launching new products and making announcements at the exhibition include BlackBerry, Dell, du, etisalat, Google, HP, Microsoft, Oracle, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sun MicroSystems and Symantec. The show opens to trade visitors at 1pm.

Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo, the retail component of Gitex got off to a flying start on Saturday following its inauguration by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

In its 18th edition, Gitex Shopper continues to be a popular event. With exciting new additions to the show this year, the show attracted a diverse audience ranging from die-hard electronics enthusiasts, casual visitors, serious gamers and expectant traders. Gaming enthusiasts of all ages were able to try out some of the most popular game titles in the world at the free play area.

Gitex Shopper has become the most anticipated event for visitors who are keen to avail of the latest launches and fantastic offers made by the retail giants," said Helal Saeed Al Merri, Director-General of Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of the event.

Gitex Shopper and Consumer Electronics Expo is taking place at Airport Expo, Dubai, until October 24.

At Gitex 2008, one of the biggest highlights on the first day will be the keynote address from the Chairman and Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems, Scott McNealy, who will be speaking at this year's Gitex Technology Week Global Conference.
Gitex Technology Week 2008 is open from 1pm- 7pm on October 19, 10am- 7pm on October 20-22 and 10am-5pm on October 23.

The exhibition is open to trade and business professionals only. The price of a one-day pass is Dh40 and Dh100 for a five-day pass.

Admission includes access to all events including Gitex Business Solutions, Gulfcomms and Consumer Electronics.
