Dubai Customs foils smuggle of fake currency notes

Dubai, Oct. 19, 2008 (WAM) - Dubai Customs at Port Rashid foiled last Wednesday smuggling attempt of Dh50, 000 and USUS$100 counterfeit notes.

Earlier, a Port Rashid inspector in the passengers section suspected a passenger arriving by sea from one of the Asian countries while examining passengers' suitcases through the scanning device. He noticed some paper parcels hidden carefully inside the suitcase pockets. Thanks to his wide experience in body language and weird passengers' behaviours. The inspector referred the suitcase to the manual inspection for examination. An inspection officer at Port Rashid opened the suitcase in front of its owner. He found five parcels of counterfeited cash money worth Dh50, 000 following the examination with the counterfeited currency device.

The inspection of the passenger's hand bag revealed the presence of a US$100, which was also found to be forged currency note. Dubai Customs has taken the necessary measures and retained the seized money, pending coordination and liaison with Dubai Police Headquarters. The suspect was referred to the competent security forces for action.
