S. Koreans say Obama likely to win presidential poll: poll
SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Koreans favor Barack Obama over John McCain and believe Obama will become the next president of the United States, according to a survey result released Sunday.
In the survey of 500 people aged 19 and older across the country, 78.4 percent
expected the Illinois senator to win the presidential election next month.
The outlook apparently reflects a series of opinion polls in the U.S., which show
Obama is still leading the race, although his lead over the Republican McCain has
been dropping in the last several days.
When asked about whom they want to become the next U.S. president, 62.8 percent
of the Korean respondents picked Obama, saying he is expected to handle poverty,
human rights, world peace, and the economic crisis better than his Republican
rival.
Some said that if McCain succeeds President George W. Bush, more religious
conflicts and terrorist attacks could follow.
