S. Korea, France launch working holiday program

SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- As many as 2,000 South Koreans will be allowed to work and travel in France every year under a new program between the two nations aimed at promoting persons exchanges, officials here said Monday.

South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan signed a deal on the "working
holiday" program with the French Ambassador to Seoul Philippe Thiebaud, they
added.
The program provides South Koreans aged 18-30 with a legal opportunity to get
jobs for up to one year. Currently, South Koreans visiting France on a short-term
visa can stay there for the maximum of three months and are prohibited from
working. The program is reciprocal, with an annual quota of 2,000 beneficiaries
in each nation.
South Korea already operates working holiday programs with Australia, Japan,
Canada, and New Zealand.
