S. Korean adoptee abandoned in Hong Kong finds new family: media

Hong Kong, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- An eight-year-old Korean girl abandoned by her
adoptive Dutch diplomat parents in Hong Kong has been placed with a new family, a
Hong Kong-based English-language newspaper reported Monday.
The child, named Jade, has been under the care of a child welfare center in Hong
Kong since May last year when the Dutch couple who adopted her at four months old
reneged on the adoption.
The South China Morning Post, quoting a social welfare worker, reported that Jade
has been recently adopted by a foreign family in Hong Kong and is now living a
normal life.
Her new family's identity was not disclosed for the protection of their privacy,
the report said.
The Dutch diplomat was severely criticized last year for abandoning the girl,
citing cultural differences.
Jade, described as fluent in English and Cantonese but not in Korean, was at the
time known to retain South Korean citizenship, not having been naturalized as a
Dutch citizen.
