ULAANBAATAR WILL CELEBRATE ITS ANNIVERSARY

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The 373 anniversary of Ulaanbaatar city is to be celebrated on October 29. The event ought to be close to people, targeted at residents of ger (national dwelling) districts, involving generations and cost-effective. This decision has been made by a working group created by the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city, Mr E.Bat-Uul. A plan of the celebration actions will be considered next week. The history of the UB city is the symbol of the Mongolians' fights for freedom and of the independence, and the political, economical, religious and cultural center. In 1639 in the territory of a present Uvurkhangai aimag's Burd sum, the first Bogd Jevtzundamba was proclaimed the Mongolian first religious leader, and a Ger-Palace was erected for him. This event is considered as the first establishment of a present Capital city of Mongolia. In 1778, it settled permanently at its present location, the junction of the Tuul and Selbe rivers. Before this, it changed location over twenty times. Capital city of Mongolia has been given five names in the history. From 1639 to 1651 it was known as Urguu, from 1651 to 1706 as Nomiin Khuree, from 1706 to 1911 as Ikh Khuree, from 1912 to 1921 as Niislel Khuree, and in 1924 the cities was named as Ulaanbaatar.
