LG Electronics to invest 220 bln won in solar cell lines
SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics maker LG Electronics Inc. said Tuesday it plans to invest 220 billion won (US$168.6 million) to build two solar cell lines.
The money will be used to convert one of its plasma display lines in its Gumi
complex, about 260 kilometers southeast of Seoul, into two solar cell lines which
will have an annual capacity of 120 megawatts each, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Work on the project will begin next month for completion in 2010, it added.
LG Electronics signed a deal last month to set up a joint venture with Germany's
Conergy AG to produce solar cells to tap into the renewable energy business.
