Seoul shares dip over 1 pct on Wall Street losses
SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Wednesday
as investor sentiment was dented by overnight falls in U.S. markets, analysts
said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 15.67 points, or
1.31 percent, to 1,180.43 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks declined Tuesday as weaker earnings reports by tech firms fanned
fears about an economic downturn. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.5
percent and the tech-dominated Nasdaq composite index declined 4.14 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,365.80 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 45.85 won from Tuesday's close.
