Thailand to contain influx of migrant workers

BANGKOK, November 21 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Labour has prepared measures to strictly contain any influx of migrant workers, as the government's 300-baht daily minimum wage policy will be fully and equally implemented in all areas throughout the country as of January 1, 2013. Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap said on Wednesday that his ministry has anticipated an influx of migrant workers from neighbouring countries after the new wage policy takes effect, but the preparations are needed for the sake of national security, as migrant workers may create economic and social problems in the country. Padermchai acknowledged that the prepared measures, which meet international standards, will also secure Thailand from a close watch of international agencies concerned. According to the labour minister, there are now a large number of illegal migrant workers in Thailand and the Thai government is legitimate to deport them to their home countries, if arrested. The labour minister insisted that all immigrants, including those who have entered Thailand legally, should not join in any domestic rally, warning migrant workers who were found causing havoc in the Kingdom would be taken legal action.
