Poland invites Korean participation in its infrastructure projects
By Yoo Cheong-mo
BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) -- Poland asked for greater South Korean participation
in its massive infrastructure expansion projects, including the construction of
atomic power plants, the spokesman of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said
Friday.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made the comments to President Lee in bilateral
talks held in Beijing on Friday, presidential spokesman Lee Dong-kwan said.
"Lee and Tusk met for an hour on the sidelines of Asia-Europe Meeting summit for
discussions on expanding bilateral economic and commercial relations," Lee said.
"Tusk explained his country's plans to build a 440 million euro LNG storage
facility and two to three nuclear power plants by 2012 and expand its road,
railroad and Internet networks. He asked for active South Korean participation in
those infrastructure projects," said the spokesman.
In response, Lee expressed a particularly strong interest in the nuclear power
plant projects, saying that South Korean companies boast the world's best safety
technology and know-how in the nuclear power generation fields.
Lee then promoted the superiority of the South Korean-built T-50 plane, as the
Polish government is reportedly moving to import pilot-training planes.
"Lee said T-50 planes have been recognized worldwide for their superior
performance and quality, while Tusk positively responded to Lee's
recommendation," said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, Lee disclosed Polish President Lech Kaczynski's plan to visit Seoul
this winter, saying,"I'll arrange Kaczynski's visit to South Korean nuclear power
plant facilities when he visits South Korea in December."
