Thai PM ready to revoke ISA

BANGKOK, November 25 (TNA) - Security officers in Thailand are ready to revoke an Internal Security Act (ISA) on three Bangkok districts now that an anti-government protest has ended, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Sunday. Miss Yingluck told journalists before attending a censure debate at the parliament, lodged by major political opposition Democrat Party, that the ISA enforced by the government since last Thursday and due to end on November 30, was aimed at maintaining law and order during Saturday’s rally. The eight-hour protest, led by Pitak Siam group leader retired General Boonlert Kaewprasit, ended in the early hours of evening after demonstrators were told of imminent risks. The enforcement of ISA covered Dusit, Phra Nakhon and Pomprab districts, where the rally site was organised. Miss Yingluck said security officers would meet at 10.00 a.m. today (0300 GMT) to consider lifting the ISA and if the situation returned to normal, it “could be revoked immediately”. She said 66 people injured from Saturday’s rally were still in hospital and the government would provide fair justice to them. (TNA)
