MFA to inform int'l envoys rally has ended

BANGKOK, November 26 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreing Affairs has invited top envoys of foreign countries stationed in Thailand for a briefing on a return to normalcy of the domestic political situation, after an anti-government rally ended last Saturday. Deputy Thai Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, who is also Foreign Minister, told a press conference that the foreign diplomats were scheduled to be informed of last Saturday's situation and operations of state security officers in details during Monday's official briefing to prevent any misunderstanding and confusion caused by, probably, distorted information. Surapong also thanked anti-government protesters, led by the Pitak Siam group, who ended their rally last Saturday evening, bringing the country's political situation back to normal, acknowledging that the government is considering lifting the Internal Security Act (ISA) within 1-2 days. Besides, according to the deputy premier, the briefing was also aimed to maintain confidence in Thailand so that countries cautioning their people to refrain from travelling to Bangkok at the moment for fears of impacts from the protest will lift their warnings shortly. The deputy premier said, after the revocation of the special law, Thailand will be filled with joy and happiness as many festivities, namely the Loy Kratong Festival, nationwide celebrations of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's birthday on December 5 and the annual Christmas and New Year holidays are approaching. The Thai government enforced the one-week ISA in Bangkok's three districts, including Dusit, Phra Nakhon and Pompab Sattrupprai, last Thursday, scheduled for November 22-30, aimed to maintain order during the anti-government rally. The mass demonstration, however, ended on Saturday evening. (TNA)
