Norway Hopes Partnership With RI Will Prevent Deforestation
Jakarta, Nov 27 (ANTARA) - The Crown Prince of Norway, Haakon Magnus, hopes that Indonesia and Norway can work closely to address climate change and deforestation.
"Deforestation and climate change are the concerns of the community, and cooperation between the two countries is required to address these issues," said the Crown Prince of Norway, in his speech at the event - Beyond Carbon: REDD+ Towards Sustainable Development, held in Jakarta, on Tuesday.
According to him, the community`s cooperation is required to address deforestation and climate change.
Prince Magnus praised Indonesia, especially the REDD+ Task Force, which is keen on solving environmental problems. He hoped that the two countries could strengthen their forces in addressing these issues.
During the event, a joint declaration was signed between the government, representatives of indigenous communities and organisations that look into sustainable development.
The head of the REDD+ Task Force, Kuntoro Mangunsubroto, welcomed the Crown Prince of Norway and introduced him to businesses, indigenous communities and the government, which is looking into sustainable development.
According to him, these people have a vision of building a country, with equitable sustainable development.
The event exhibited various profiles of forest and plantation products, including wicker products, custom woven fabrics, spices, knick-knack interiors and a variety of wooden products.
In addition, the exhibition also displayed photos of indigenous people in ecological, social, cultural and economic environment. The images were presented in the exhibition titled Photo Voice.
