Thai PM calls for stable politics
BANGKOK, November 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that the Thai economy will sustain growth if the domestic politics remains stable.
Speaking to National Defence College students in Bangkok on Thursday, Yingluck acknowledged not only unrest, but also other forms of threats, including natural disasters and the problem of global warming, could affect national security.
Yingluck insisted that the Thai economy will keep moving forward if national politics is strengthened and remains stable, urging people to help think how to further enhance national competitiveness, apart from solely boosting Thai exports.
As Thailand will become a partner of the Single Economic Community of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN by 2015, Yingluck suggested that all countries and sectors in the region think how to live together in harmonious, peaceful and constructive manners.
According to the prime minister, for Thailand, the government is considering how to build sustainable security, narrow disparity of people’s income and widen their opportunities, as well as simultaneously find ways for the private sector to cater to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), in which the country needs to deal with more trading partners.
The prime minister also called on the National Defence College students to help seek ways for further developing the following national issues, including food security and agricultural zoning, green economy, as well as the development of the southern border region and national competitiveness, new threats to national security and preventive measures, a plan on turning the country to become an international medical hub and preparations the Thai society with the rising aged population.
