Severe weather, minor quake jolt Thailand

BANGKOK, December 2 (TNA) - Several areas of Thailand have been flooded due to heavy rainfall, while an earthquake has hit the northern capital of Chiang Mai. In the southern province of Satun, water from a canal overflowed and inundated houses in Khuan Don district, damaging acres of rice fields. Red flags are being hoisted to signal danger zones, while authorities have evacuated villagers to safe grounds. Heavy rainfall and temperature drops have also affected the northeastern province of Loei. More than 150 rice farming families in Dan Sai district are expected to require state financial aid. Earlier at 3.21 a.m. Sunday, the Meteorological Department also confirmed a mild earthquake measuring 2.8 Richter jolted a district in the northern capital of Chiang Mai. However, no casualties have been reported. (TNA)
