Figure skating icon Kim Yu-na leads at Grand Prix series
SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korean figure skating star Kim Yu-na won the women's short program at the Grand Prix series in the United States on Sunday (Korean time), placing her in the lead for the 2008-2009 title, organizers said.
Kim scored 69.50, surpassing by a wide margin Miki Ando of Japan, who posted
57.80. Japan's Yukari Nakano finished third at 57.46 in the competition held in
Everett, Washington, the International Skating Union said on its Web site.
The wide lead gives the 18-year-old South Korean an edge as she goes into the
free skating event on Monday to compete for the Grand Prix title.
Kim became the first-ever from her country to win an ISU championship in 2006.
The two-time Grand Prix final champion from 2007-2008 won a bronze medal in the
world championships two years ago.
