Tourists visit Thai North as temperature continues dropping

BANGKOK, December 16 (TNA) - Tourists visiting the North became excited before dawn Sunday, after seeing grasses atop a Royal agricultural project in the northern capital of Chiang Mai province were covered with frosts, after temperature further dropped to zero Celsius. As temperature atop Doi Ang Khang, a unique tourist destination in the province, continued declining, tourists visiting the agricultural project became excited after seeing grasses were covered with frosts. It is expected that more frosts would be seen early Monday, due to a further drop in the temperature, as high pressure cell would cover upper Thailand, while the northwesterly winds would prevail over the region. While visiting the Royal agricultural project, tourists also had an opportunity to meet the Parong hill tribes, who set up stalls selling baked eggs and souvenirs. At the well known Wat Phra That Doi Kham, situated in the provincial seat, locals and tourists paid respects to the tallest Buddha statue in the North and later viewed the beautiful scenery of Chiang Mai from in front of the temple. Many tourists visiting the northernmost province of Chiang Rai also had fun, after the temperature dropped below 5 degrees Celsius. Many of them woke up early to view the sun rise and sea of fog from atop the mountain in Wiang Kaen district. Further down, in Lamphun province, besides appreciating the cold weather, tourists visited several cultural attractions and paid respects to the revered Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, which is more than 1,300 years old. Cool weather also occured in the Northeast. Tourists visiting Buri Ram province had a rare opportunity to see birds escaped the very cold weather of Siberia and laid eggs around a reservoir near the province’s airport. More than 20,000 birds are now temporary staying there, which many of them belong to species that are near extinction. (TNA)
