Nuclear reactor stops working for unidentified reasons: officials
ULJIN, South Korea, Oct. 26 (Yonhap) -- One of six nuclear reactors in this coastal city of Uljin stopped working Sunday due to reasons yet unidentified, officials said. No radioactive material was leaked.
The malfunction ocurred at around 2:30 p.m. at the oldest nuclear power generator
in the city, located about 230 kilometers east of Seoul, the officials at the
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation said.
"We're keeping the conditions safe," said an official who declined to be named,
adding the 950,000-kilowatt reactor will be reactivated as soon as the problem is
fixed.
According to a parliamentary report released last month, Uljin accounted for 25
malfunction cases, or 60 percent, of all South Korea's nuclear reactors in the
last five years.
