Kim Yu-na captures Skate America women's title
SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na won the women's title at the opening event of the Grand Prix series Sunday (Korean time), winning both the short program and the free skate at the Skate America competition in the United States.
The 18-year-old won 123.95 points in the free skate at Comcast Arena in Everett,
Washington, beating Yukari Nakano of Japan who finished second with a score of
115.07. Japan's Miki Ando came in third with 110.62.
Kim, the 2008 world bronze medalist, had won the short program the day earlier by
a wide margin, winning 69.50 points to 57.80 earned by Ando. The free skate win
increased Kim's total score to 193.45, giving her an over-20-point lead over her
closest rival.
