LG Electronics wins patent lawsuit against Whirlpool
SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- LG Electronics Inc., South Korea's second-largest consumer electronics maker, said Monday a U.S. federal judge has ruled in its favor in a patent lawsuit brought by U.S. appliance maker Whirlpool Corp.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a lower court's ruling
on Oct. 10, ending a five-year patent dispute with Wirpool related to washing
machine technology, LG said in a statement.
"The victory is significantly meaningful because LG Electronics won the patent
dispute with the world's largest appliance maker Whirlpool at its home turf,"
said Lee Jeong-hwan, vice president at LG's patent division.
"The ruling is expected to help LG raise its awareness on its products in the
U.S. market," Lee said.
For all of this year, LG aims to sell 10 million washing machines, up 12 percent
from last year.
