S. Korean Lee wins two golds at short track speed skating World Cup
SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean teenager Lee Jung-su captured his second title at the short track speed skating World Cup in the United States on Monday (Korean time), finishing first in the men's 1,000-meter competition, organizers said.
His compatriot, Lee Ho-suk, took the gold in the men's 500m race, while South
Korean Shin Sae-bom won the women's 1,000m event in Kearns, Utah, the
International Skating Union said on its Web site.
Lee Jung-su, 19, who a day earlier won the 1,500m race, came in first with a time
of 1:29.688, beating Michael Gilday of Canada who finished second with 1:29.842.
Apolo Anton Ohno of the United States came in fourth at 1:31.903, the Web site
said.
Lee Ho-suk posted a time of 41.321 to edge out Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada
by just 0.502 in the 500m event, but the South Korean men's squad failed to reach
the 5,000m relay finals at the Utah Olympic Oval, the ISU said.
Shin won the gold medal with a time of 1:30.907 in the women's 1,000m, while Yang
Shin-young of South Korea took the bronze in the women's 500m race, it said.
South Korea is a dominant force in short track speed skating. In the 2006 Winter
Olympics, the country took away most of the medals in the sport.
