World leaders to discuss financial crisis

SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Yonhap) -- Dozens of world leaders, including 15 former heads of state, and prominent academics will gather in Seoul later this week to discuss the ongoing economic crisis and South Korea's role in the international community, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The forum, to be held on Thursday, is to mark the 60th anniversary of the
founding of South Korea, the ministry added.
Participants will include former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, former
Russian Prime Minister Evgeny Primakov, Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok
Tong, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, and former Australian
Prime Minister Robert J. Hawke.
Among foreign scholars to attend the event are Francis Fukuyama, professor at
Johns Hopkins University and Robert Mundell, professor at Columbia University.
The forum with the theme of "Republic of Korea: 60 and Beyond" comprises three
sessions _ Korea at 60: searching for a global Korea, World financial crisis and
conditions for new growth, and New national development paradigm: green growth.
