S. Korea weighs additional stimulus measures
SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea said Tuesday that it will announce additional stimulus measures, including tax cuts and expanded fiscal spending, to boost sluggish domestic demand amid prolonged financial turbulence.
The Finance Ministry said that it is considering bringing up the schedule of
planned income, corporate and real-estate tax cuts and increasing budget spending
for next year by around 5 trillion won (US$3.3 billion).
The government recently submitted 273.8 trillion won budget plan for 2009 to the
National Assembly, an increase of 6.5 percent compared with this year.
Details on those measures are expected to be announced on Wednesday or Thursday,
ministry officials said. They will be the latest in a string of the government
efforts to bring calm in market confident severely dented by the U.S.-sparked
financial turmoil.
