Hyundai Motor to commercialize hydrogen fuel-cell car in 2012

SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, said Tuesday it aims to start producing a commercial version of its first hydrogen fuel-cell car in 2012.

To meet the target, Hyundai will put more resources into research and development
for such vehicles, the company said in a statement, without elaborating further.
Officials at Hyundai weren't immediately available for comment.
Some auto analysts say the market for electric vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel
may not take off anytime soon because of equipment difficulties and higher car
prices, compared with other types of hybrids and electric cars.
Hyundai Motor plans to introduce its first gas-electric hybrid based on its
Avante compact car next year.
In 2010, Hyundai Motor will release a hybrid version of the Sonata sedan in the
U.S. market, the automaker's first foray into the hybrid segment in the world's
largest auto market.
