LG Telecom Q3 net edges up on lower costs
SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- LG Telecom Ltd., South Korea's third-largest mobile carrier, said Wednesday that its earnings rose slightly in the third quarter thanks to reduced marketing costs.
Net profit stood at 99.4 billion won (US$70.6 million) in the three months to
September, up 0.4 percent from 98.3 billion won a year earlier, LG Telecom said
in a regulatory filing. The bottom line spiked 47 percent from the previous
quarter.
Sales rose 3.3 percent on-year to 1.2 trillion won, and operating profit climbed
7.5 percent to 123 billion won.
The marginal earnings increase was attributed to efforts to refrain from
exhaustive marketing and to focus on boosting earnings from wireless data
service.
At the end of September, LG Telecom had 8.14 million subscribers, accounting for
18 percent of the local mobile phone market. The company said it had acquired
some 67,000 new subscribers during the third quarter.
