FNC Speaker rounds-off visit to Spain after high-profile meetings

Madrid, Oct 29, 2008 (WAM) - Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al-Ghurair, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) ended a three-day visit to Spain after holding some high profile meetings with a number of senior Spanish officials.
Al-Ghurair met separately with Prince Filipe de Borbon, Crown Prince of Spain and Prince of Asturias, Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Spanish Senate President, Francisco Javier Rojo Garcia, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Spanish Parliament, Josep Antoni Duran y Lleida and Spanish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs. He discussed with them ways to boost relations of cooperation between the UAE and Spain in various fields.
During his meeting with Prince Filipe de Borbon, which was held in the presence of members of the FNC delegation accompanying Al-Ghurair and the UAE Ambassador Sultan Al-Qurtasi Al-Nuaimi, they discussed ways to boost relations of cooperation between the UAE and Spain in various fields.
Al-Ghurair lauded Spain's just stances on various international issues and praised King Carlos for his stances on Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian issue and his repeated call for a peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
He reiterated the UAE's call for a Middle East free from weapons of mass destruction, equality and the need to strip Israel from its nuclear arms. He also cited Iran's nuclear programme and its effect on the region.
The Spanish crown prince expressed admiration on the UAE's comprehensive development. He said the UAE, thanks to its wise leadership and balanced foreign policy, commands great respect on the international scene. He reiterated the strong ties between the UAE and Spain.
Al-Ghurair, who had earlier, during the meeting, briefed the Spanish crown prince about the UAE's internal and external policies, as well as the FNC and its operation, reiterated the UAE's commitment to boost ties with Spain in view.
The FNC speaker and his entourage were seen off during departure by Spanish Senate President, Francisco Javier Rojo Garcia and some members of the Spanish senate.
