MCOT launches new business with SKorea's leading digital media

BANGKOK, January 29 (TNA) - MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), a most established Thai media firm, has launched a new business with a South Korean digital media leader, with annual revenues initially targeted at 65 million baht annually. MCOT President Anek Permvongseni on Tuesday signed an agreement with Hwang Byeong Wu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Korea-based Intellicode Thai Co. to run the new media business, which will present Korean entertainment contents on websites, mobile phones and smart TV. Anek said it was another step forward of MCOT, in addition to its main businesses of television and radio broadcasting, paving the way for MCOT to become a media leader in Thailand and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the foreseeable future with a mobile phone-based pictures and voice recognition technology from Korea. According to the MCOT new president, Intellicode Thai is part of Korea’s Intellicode Co, which is good at advance technologies, and the agreed alliance with the South Korean company is foreseen to earn MCOT more annual revenues of some 65 million baht. The CEO of Intellicode Thai Co. acknowledged, meanwhile, that both companies will conduct five joint development projects, comprising the development of information technology (IT), the Thai-language soompi website, applications for mobile phones and smart TV, analog-to-digital transition and the programming of Korean entertainment contents for Thai viewers, and that his company will apply a mobile phone-based technology which recognizes voices and pictures in commercials and, with the technology, MCOT will become a most modern organization in Thailand and ASEAN. Intellicode Thai is a subsidiary of Korea Telecom and SoftBank and runs a world-renowned website, www.soompi.com. A shareholder of Intellicode Thai is Enswers Co., which provides the Audiovisual Search technology. (TNA)
