Lee welcomes three more figures to global advisory group By Yoo Cheong-mo

SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak on Wednesday welcomed three more world-renowned figures to his global advisory group, reinforcing his efforts to seek foreign advice on fighting the world economic crisis.

The newest members of Lee's global advisory group are Narayana Murthy, chairman
of Infosys Technologies, a global consulting and IT services company based in
India; John L. Thornton, chairman of the board of the U.S.-based Brookings
Institution; and Ruben Vardanian, chairman of Troika Dialog Group, Russia's
largest private investment bank.
Meeting with the three new advisers at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, Lee
stressed that South Korea is more than capable of overcoming its financial market
unrest through a mix of preemptive and sufficient countermeasures.
The president also reconfirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation with
all countries across the world in tiding over the global financial crisis.
Lee's international advisory group was launched in June with 15 world-renowned
scholars, statesmen and entrepreneurs from 11 countries across the world.
Its key members include Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, French scholar Guy Sorman,
former Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, World Economic Forum chairman
Klaus Schwab and Harvard University President Lawrence Summers.
In the middle of October, Michael E. Porter, a professor at the Harvard Business
School, also became a member of Lee's international advisory group.
