S. Korea, Canada to hold talks on defense cooperation

SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Canada on Thursday held talks on strengthening their military ties and boosting exchanges between their armed services.

The talks, the 9th of their kind, were held at South Korea's Defense Ministry
between the director of the South Korean Defense Ministry's international policy
bureau, Song Bong-heon, and Maj. Gen. Mike J. Ward, the head of the international
security policy bureau at Canada's Defense Ministry.
"At the talks, the two sides exchanged views on current security conditions in
the region and discussed ways to increase exchange and cooperation between their
militaries," the Defense Ministry said in a press release.
The Canadian delegates to the talks will visit the joint security area, better
known as the truce village of Panmunjom, inside the demilitarized zone that
divides the two Koreas before heading home Friday, it said.
